Overview

This is a short animation that explains to young children the history of many African descendants all over the world. It tells the story of an unforgettable event that started in Africa. It highlights the heroism that took place in many countries including Haiti and Jamaica which led to the eventual emancipation of Africans who were once captured as slaves for 400 years.

The history of all peoples of African descent across the Caribbean, North America, South America and other parts of the world is richly steeped with Heroes. We captured images of a sample of the most noted heroes that contributed to the fight against oppression and served as a motivating factor toward emancipation (Nanny, Dutty Boukman, Toussaint Louverture are just a few).

What Parents and Teachers say

“Great video and awesome reading little ones! ** Remember, on 1 August 1985 the government of Trinidad and Tobago declared Emancipation Day a national holiday to commemorate the abolition of slavery. This was 151 years after slavery was abolished..”
